Founder – Donna Pecci

How did you get started in the events industry?

I was a PR major at Columbia College when I heard a woman speak during a career day about running an event production company. I knew immediately that that was what I wanted to do! I chased her down Michigan Ave. and volunteered to work for free – my parents were thrilled!   Fortunately, it wasn’t too long before I turned that unpaid internship into a real career that’s given me the opportunity to produce events for HBO, Ritz Carlton, Hershey, Purina, GLAAD Media Awards, and the Sundance Film Festival as well as work with talent like Adam Levine, Bette Midler, Sheryl Crow, DJ Khaled and others.

What is a celebrity activation?

A celebrity activation is basically any deal that gets a celebrity partnered with a brand. It’s something I got into sort of by accident. Through the magical twists and turns that have been my 25 years in the event industry, I served for a time as Director of Entertainment for an experiential company. My main job was booking and producing headline celebrity talent for performances, appearances, etc. I developed really strong relationships with all the major agencies, publicists and management companies through the deals I was doing. Later when I was working on my own a client asked if I could help secure a celebrity to endorse his new product. I not only found the talent through my connections but wound up helping him to develop the campaign as well. After that I had a new passion. I get such a satisfaction out of finding my clients the most perfectly suited influencer for their brand. I see it as match-making for the marketing industry.

Why did you start Crush?

Because after 25 years of working in the industry, I’ve realized that there’s a better way of doing things.

A good event can be a short-term boost for a brand. A great event can modify long-term behavior, whether that means leading consumers to choose a different brand the next they buy pet food, encouraging first-time donors to a charity, or inspiring travelers to visit an exotic new destination. To produce a great event, you have to deeply understand the brand’s goals and how everything – venue, vendors, talent – must come together to achieve that goal. I can do that on-time, on-budget and without any bullshit.

If you were not running Crush what would you be doing?

Sometimes I think I was supposed to be a sports agent. I love the adrenaline that comes with booking a solid deal and the fulfillment that comes from looking out for the interests of clients. And I like the idea of showing that boys’ club a thing or two.

What are your other passions?

I’m a girl’s girl at heart so I worship at the altar of Gucci & Chanel. I devour podcasts and audio books on evening walks around the city. I’m slightly obsessed with yoga and pilates, but it’s mainly so I can feel better about eating a good steak and great Cabernet. And there is NOTHING I would rather do then travel with husband and daughter!
